Join us for a special evening during Pride Month to come together and revitalize the planting demonstration boxes in the Nicollet Island prairie.
FMR recently led a multi-year restoration of the natural areas on the north half of Nicollet Island, in partnership with the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, Hennepin County, and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board. Restoration efforts include removing invasive plants, enhancing degraded forests, and expanding diverse grassland habitat, including the 2 acres of native prairie that feature the demonstration boxes that volunteers will tend.
With guidance from FMR staff, volunteers will help care for grasses and wildflowers that showcase the beauty of habitat-providing plants, whether in a park or a yard.
This event is for those who self-identify as LGBTQIA2S+ or as allies of the queer community.
No experience is needed. However, registration is required, and capacity is limited. All tools, gloves and training will be provided.
Accessibility
The worksite for this event is flat, with gravel trails leading to the demonstration boxes. Tending is a lower-impact activity that can be done while sitting down or kneeling. FMR will provide a few kneeling pads.
Long pants are recommended.
